At least the testimonials are the only thing left that’s unpaid

KnowSpam is better than Bayesian filters. It pains me to say that, especially because I do kind of fear the effect of challenge/response bots on work-related emails. I think we have to get over it, though; any automated means of distinguishing spam from other is going to contribute to an arms race that makes spam stronger. Social problems demand social solutions. KnowSpam is working great so far and when the for-pay part kicks in in a couple of weeks, I expect I’ll have no problem with paying it.

In other news, I am working full-time again, for an undisclosed company. So I may be posting here less, as if I need more excuses.

Party like it’s 1994

The real reason pure-CSS layout is sweeping Geek Nation lately is simple: it makes web page layout difficult again! It’s like taking a one-way trip in the Wayback Machine, right back to when no two browsers worked alike, it took half an hour of research to accomplish anything, and ugly, asinine hacks were so ubiquitous as to be a de facto part of the language. So we’ll have job security again, if we can just convince our bosses that web standards and separation of code from layout will actually confer them any advantage.

Well, that and static page backgrounds. You thought it was hot when HotWired figured out how to indent things? Man. You ain’t seen hot.

Get me, I’m a designer too!

I redesigned Lost Time Incident for my peoples at SignalStation. It’s a pure-CSS layout experiment, so those of you with older browsers may experience discomfort. Comment here if anything super-egregious happens. And do read around in Michael’s site, it’s a cut above the competition.
