When your work is fairly unsatisfying and you haven’t yet thought of that awesome idea that’ll get you to start a company, maybe it’s time to consider grad school.
I just need to find the right program, someplace suitable to my weird-ass game-related ambitions. (Justin, care to weigh in?)

I’m in the same boat, man. As far as I can tell, the professors that study games are at MIT. I have the feeling it won’t be easy (or cheap) to get into that Master’s Program.

Been a long time, Mike. I recommend finding a program you like. ITP at NYU seems good. Digital Media at Georgia Tech. USC has something in the film program for gaming. And Teachers College at Columbia will let you study games if you relate it to pedagogy. One of my co-workers just finished a digital storytelling masters program at Ball State. But the real trick is paying for it. I would recommend finding the program you like, then hit the HR site at the institution. Almost all unis will pay your tuition if you are working for them. That is what I just did to Columbia. Work on something you enjoy, get paid, take two days off a week to attend (free!) classes toward the degree. I don’t know which institutions are looking for ruby developers, but someone must be. Check out http://www.higheredjobs.com/. Only one job up there refs ruby right now, but these thing change. While you are at it, take a look at http://jobs.columbia.edu/ and search by department for 036-CCNMTL. I think something in there would be up your alley.

ken

oh, i would also checking out Katie Salen, who teaches game design at Parsons in the city. She came to speak at VC last year. Pretty impressive. Ian Bogost is the guy to check out at GA Tech.

Good to hear some names I know! (I include your name, of course; good to hear from you!)
